Kids and Teens Program Stoic Kids is a dynamic and inclusive physical education program that combines the philosophies of Stoicism with the practice of Martial Arts to facilitate a deeper understanding of the connection between our minds, bodies, and each other. Stoic Kids utilizes movement and play to teach children useful skills such as falling safely, de-escalation, bodily and situational awareness, supporting others, introspection, and effective communication. The Stoic Kids curriculum is centred on the four tenets of Stoicism: wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice, and is practiced through the Martial Arts ethos of empathy and self respect. Stoic Kids facilitates positive associations with facing challenges of all kinds; a crucial skill for lifelong resilience in mind, body and spirit. Our Stoic Kids program welcomes children 7-14 years old, and follows traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu children’s belting rules. Competition is encouraged, but not required. Students are required to attend a minimum of 2 classes per week for regular belt promotion.
Jiu Jitsu Traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu taught through the personal development practice of Stoicism. In each class, the four tenets of Stoicism: wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice are taught through the Martial Arts practice of empathy and self respect. Students engage in Stoic readings with brief discussion, movement practices essential for grappling conditioning, technical drilling, and live sparring (rolling). Practical self defense applications are addressed in each class. Competition is encouraged, but not required.
MMA/Self Defense Striking and Grappling basics essential for grapplers to execute effective self defense. Emphasis is placed on mobility, speed, and precision. Students engage in bag work with heavy bag, half heavy bag, double end bag (both small and large), speed bag (both small and large), partnered pad work, and real time light touch sparring (tap spar). Practical self defense applications are addressed in each class. In addition to providing essential knowledge and skill-building to grapplers, this class offers a unique opportunity to exponentially improve overall athletic conditioning, reaction time, and awareness.
Wrestling Traditional wrestling curriculum focusing on takedowns and the corresponding defences, students will have the opportunity to chain their wrestling into submissions, improve overall control and positioning in both MMA and BJJ scenarios and drastically increase their overall conditioning.
Women’s Only A space for women to connect and support one another. These classes follow the same curriculum of the co-ed Jiu Jitsu classes but are designed with the small group setting in mind. Our women’s only classes are more open-ended, with opportunities for drilling, troubleshooting, and peer-based support regarding any issues affecting women on and off the mats. Practical self defense applications are addressed in each class. Attendance of co-ed classes is encouraged, but not required.
Men’s Only A space for men to connect and support one another. As these classes are by appointment only, the curriculum will shift based on the unique needs of each group, with opportunities for drilling, troubleshooting, and peer-based support regarding any issues affecting men on and off the mats. Practical self defense applications can be addressed in each class. *Please note: Stoic Men’s space is currently available by appointment only.
